Woodquarter

This area of Donegal is home to some of the county’s most breathtaking scenery, situated along the western shore of Mulroy Bay, a strikingly picturesque inlet. Mulroy Bay, known for its long, narrow shape, is also a key hub for aquaculture.

Historically, the region gained notoriety in April 1878 as the site of the assassination of Lord Leitrim, a local landlord. The surrounding forest, first planted in 1959, is rich with a variety of trees, including oak, alder, holly, birch, and western hemlock.

Along the walking trail, you’ll catch glimpses of Gull Island and Inishyweel. Gull Island, in particular, is an important breeding site for herring gulls, making it a spot of ecological significance.
